“Ahara” and Healthy Gastrointestinal Functioning
Role of Deepana, Pachana and Anulomana in Healthy Gastrointestinal Functioning
Healthy Diet |
Deepana
means maintenance of strong digestive fire, Pachana means smooth and good
digestion, and Anulomana that is Good elimination of waste materials from the
body. When these three principles are in check then the body will respond well
to almost any appropriate treatment. Usually, people ignore the factors of weak
appetite or sluggish digestion and constipation as mere small factors, but
little do they know that these minor factors can lead to serious illness over
time.
Deepana-Good Appetite
“Agni”-The
digestive fire is responsible for a good appetite in our body. A strong appetite
called deepana, usually signals that our body is ready for the new food intake.
If appetite is weak, or we have abnormal cravings then something is wrong with
the digestive fire. Whenever you are not hungry don’t stuff yourself with food,
our appetite should guide us to eat what we need in a suitable quantity so that
we can get the maximum benefit from it.
Pachana-Good Digestion
Healthy digestion ensures proper nourishment of the dhatus (basic body elements). When digestion is impaired we might be facing acidity, bloating, nausea, sour taste in the mouth. This usually indicates digestion is sluggish and Indigestion or “AMA” is being produced. Our body usually signals us whenever something unsuitable is being consumed. We tend to ignore these signals sometimes.
Anulomana-Good Elimination
Improper
elimination manifests as irregular bowel movements, consistent loose bowel
constipation, sticky hard stools, etc. This shows that usually waste and toxins
will be depositing in the colon and thus disrupting the health. Anulomana that
is healthy elimination is very important so that the system is free to accept
the new food.
When
appetite, digestion, and elimination are normal, we have abundant energy, a
strong body, good health, and a clear mind. One of the first steps of
integrative treatment at the Institute of applied dermatology is the Ayurvedic
classical assessment of the Agni and Ama factor and helping the patient aid in
good digestion and bowel movements. An Integrative Diet prescription is a crucial part of IAD in treating any dermatological
conditions.
