Do not ignore rashes, lesions, or irritations that persist on the skin: Dr K S Prasanna
Do not ignore rashes
Skin conditions are
common, and while many are harmless, some can indicate serious health concerns.
According to Institute of Applied Dermatology (IAD) senior dermatologist Dr K S
Prasanna, the importance of early identification and timely medical attention
are must to treat a skin condition. "Many ignore several symptoms that
come with a skin condition but if the symptoms persists, it is very important
to consult a doctor," she adds.
According to her, if a
rash, lesion, or irritation lasts more than two weeks without improvement, it
is advisable to consult a dermatologist. Also, asymmetric growth of moles and
its colour changes should be signs of skin cancer and early detection is critical
for effective treatment. Lesions that bleed, ooze, or become painful without an
obvious cause should not be ignored as they may be early indicators of a skin
condition requiring medical intervention," she said adding that skin
conditions like lesions accompanied by fever, fatigue, or swollen lymph nodes
can be an infection or an allergic reaction that needs immediate care.
Dr Prasanna also warns
that unexplained skin darkening, hardening, or appearance of thickened patches
can be indicators of serious skin conditions, which require prompt diagnosis
and treatment.
"It is always
better to consult a dermatologist if you're uncertain about a skin change.
Early diagnosis often leads to better outcomes and prevents
complications." she adds.
