Follow a hygiene, healthy lifestyle to prevent Verruca Vulgaris (warts)
Verruca Vulgaris (warts)
Warts, especially on visible body parts, can be
annoying. Verruca Vulgaris is a common type of wart that appears on the hands
and feet. In some cases, it also shows up on faces, causing distress.
According to Institute of Applied Dermatology (IAD)
director and senior dermatologist Dr K S Prasanna, verruca vulgaris is caused
by certain strains of the human papillomavirus (HPV) that thrive in moist areas
like public showers and pools frequently used by several people."The HPV
virus spreads through direct skin contact or shared use of infected items. One
needs to be careful while using public pools and showers. Proper hygiene should
be followed to prevent the viral spread," said Dr. Prasanna. She said those
with eczema or other skin conditions should be extra cautious around shared
facilities. Avoiding public pools and community bathing areas is the best
prevention.
Scratching or biting warts can further spread the
infection from one body part to another.
While warts often disappear without treatment within six months, some persist
longer, multiply and cause discomfort. In that case, it's advisable to consult
a dermatologist for proper screening and medicinal treatment. Patients should
also focus on boosting immunity through diet and lifestyle to prevent
recurrence.
By following hygienic practices and healthy
lifestyles, verruca vulgaris can be prevented and managed.
