Prurigo is a skin disease that needs urgent medical support

There are many skin disorders we
initially overlook, only seeking medical support when things go out of hand.
One such disease is Prurigo, referred to as "prurigo simplex." This
is a chronic skin disorder characterized by the development of intensely itchy,
raised bumps or nodules on the skin's surface. Normally, this skin disease is
seen in patients who have pets, deal with livestock, work in open fields, or
defecate in open spaces. The disease is caused when worms from unhygienic
circumstances enter the body to suck blood.
"As a senior doctor with
years of experience in the field of dermatology, prurigo is a condition that
demands timely attention. Prurigo causes intense itching, raised bumps, or
nodules on the skin's surface. These lesions can be excruciatingly
uncomfortable, leading to relentless scratching and, in some cases, even open
sores or infections. The persistent itching and resultant skin damage can
significantly impact a patient's quality of life, both physically and
psychologically," said Dr K S Prasanna, Director of the Institute of
Applied Dermatology (IAD).
By seeking treatment early, we
can alleviate the itching and discomfort, helping patients regain their quality
of life and mental peace.
"Prurigo can worsen over
time if left untreated. Early intervention can break this cycle, preventing the
condition from progressing to more advanced stages and reducing the risk of
secondary infections," Dr. Prasanna added.
She also mentioned that patients
suffering from prurigo could undergo tremendous psychological stress due to the
appearance of their skin. Treating prurigo promptly can help patients regain
their self-esteem and confidence. Early intervention not only alleviates
suffering but also prevents the condition from worsening and reduces the risk
of complications.
