Identifying triggering substance is vital in treatment of Contact Eczema
Contact Eczema
Not all skin conditions are caused by bacteria, fungi, viruses, or other microbial organisms. People often think that any skin condition is because of a disease caused by living microorganisms. Contact Eczema, also known as Contact Dermatitis, is one such common skin condition that is caused when the skin comes into contact with a substance that triggers an allergic or irritant reaction. Generally, Contact Eczema is caused when the skin develops an allergic reaction to substances like nickel, fragrances, latex, certain solvents, and chemicals.
Dr Prasanna said, "This skin condition is generally seen in private parts in females. In the majority of cases, patients do not consult a doctor due to shame or shyness when openly discussing their issues with a doctor. Instead, they resort to home remedies, which can make things more complicated. Even nail polish can cause Contact Eczema in the genital areas."
The common symptoms of
Contact Eczema include itching, redness, swelling, blisters, and a burning
sensation. In severe cases, there may also be a discharge of white-coloured
fluid from the genitals.
Dr Prasanna said
"The most important aspect in the treatment of Contact Eczema is
accurately identifying the triggering factor and avoiding the triggering
substances. The patient needs to openly discuss the issue with the doctor in
order to identify the trigger. Although certain medications help treat the
condition, it is imperative to identify the triggering substance. Identifying
and avoiding the triggering substances is key to preventing flare-ups and
managing this condition effectively,"
"The patient must
seek medical attention at the initial stage itself without resorting to home
remedies. An accurate diagnosis by a dermatologist is vital to ensure your skin
stays healthy and comfortable," she added.
